Alex Tapscott

Alex Tapscott is an author, entrepreneur and speaker with a career spanning two decades. He is best known for his book Blockchain Revolution, which he co-authored with his father, Don Tapscott. Tapscott has written four books on technology and business, held multiple executive positions, and has spoken around the world on the potential of technology to create a better tomorrow.

Tapscott graduated from the University of Toronto in 1999 but quickly entered the professional world by founding New Paradigm, an early enterprise consulting firm. He wrote the first edition of the Blockchain Revolution the following year, at the age of 22. With his father, the book dives into the intriguing value of distributed ledger technology and its promise of trust and collaboration in the digital economy. The book quickly rose to the New York Times Business Bestseller list.

Tapscott’s other works include Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything, which he co-authored with Don Tapscott; Radical Technologies: The Design of Everyday Life; and The Digital Economy: Promise and Peril in the Age of Networked Intelligence.

In 2009, Tapscott’s focus shifted to venture capital. He co-founded Northwest Passage Ventures, a venture capital firm that invests in early-stage startups. Tapscott is also the founder and executive director of the Blockchain Research Institute and has helped establish the Wall Street Blockchain Alliance and the Global Blockchain Council.

Tapscott's consulting and advisory work covers corporate strategy, organization design, business model transformation and technology strategy, to name a few. He has also been an adviser to multiple governments, including the United Kingdom, Canada and Estonia. In 2013, he was recognized as one of the “Top 5 Most Influential People in Canadian Business” by the Canadian Business Journal. In 2016, he was named the “Blockchain Person of the Year” by ArabianChain.

Outside of his professional roles, Tapscott is a frequent public speaker and contributor to various media outlets. He has been featured on multiple platforms such as The National, BNN, and The Money Show. He also serves on the advisory boards of the Blockchain Revolution Global Conference and the SingularityU Canada Summit.

Tapscott’s latest works include his book Too Big to Ignore: The Business Case for Big Data, which he co-authored with Don Tapscott, and his most recent book, Upipping Your Organization: The 4 Forces to Unlock Your Organization’s Potential.
