Aminatou Sow

Aminatou Sow is an author, entrepreneur, and digital strategist from Nouakchott, Mauritania. She is the creator of a popular blog and podcast series, A Big Fat World, which focuses on art, culture, identity, and wellness. She is also the co-founder of TechLadyMafia, the first-ever digital community for women of color in tech. With a passion for telling meaningful stories through art, Aminatou was inspired to found her own public relations firm, PlainComm Inc.

Aminatou Sow was born in Nouakchott, Mauritania and moved to Paris with her family when she was six years old. She is of mixed Levantine and African descent. She attended university in France, where she studied art history and psychology. After graduation, she moved to the US and settled in San Francisco. Since then, she has become an influential voice for women and minorities in tech, media, and entrepreneurship.

In recent years, Sow has shared her insights and experiences in several books, such as her debut novel Art and Exile: Memoirs of a Troubled Exile, which recounts her journey from Mauritania to Paris to the United States. The book explores the intersection of culture, identity, and art, and communicates Sow’s dedication to understanding and creating an inclusive global society. She has also written articles and essays for The Guardian, The New York Times, BBC, and CNN, as well as numerous academic papers.

Aminatou Sow is also an entrepreneur and digital strategist. She is the co-founder of TechLadyMafia, an organization that focuses on creating opportunities and providing support to women of color in tech. Through this platform, she is helping to bridge the gender gap in tech, promoting diversity and empowering women of color to pursue their dreams in a male-dominated field.

In addition to her activism and advocacy, Sow is also the founder of PlainComm Inc., a public relations and consulting firm for companies and organizations that want to tell meaningful stories about their work and mission. As an innovative strategist, Sow is helping to bring visibility and a greater understanding of cultural issues to the public and private sectors alike.
