Anna lighte was born on December 13th, 1971 in Cleveland, Ohio to a politically active family. She has written several books, including Diet for a Hot Planet: The Climate Crisis at the End of Your Fork and What You Can Do About It and the upcoming book Between Climate and Culture: Sustaining Life and Agriculture on a Disappearing Planet.

Anna’s writing style is direct, informative and persuasive. Her arguments come from a deeply personal experience, as she advocates for mindful consumption, access to healthy and affordable food, and a new political and economic system that values people and nature over profits. Her writing often addresses how each of us can use our everyday choices to fight for justice and take ownership for our role in the current ecological crisis.

Anna’s parents, Frances Moore Lappé and Joseph Collins were two of the founders of the Small Planet Institute, a non-profit research and education organization dedicated to heightening public awareness of key ecological issues. When Anna was 7, she went with her parents to a food cooperative they established in their Boston neighborhood. This early experience sparked her interest in the business of food and inspired her lifelong passion for environmental activism.

Throughout her childhood, Anna traveled with her parents, attending countless conferences and lectures. She later attended Brown University, where she received a B.A. in Development Studies and a Master's in Political Science. After obtaining her master's degree, Anna worked as a research assistant for her father at the Small Planet Institute.

Anna went on to work in many environmental fields, including food production, environmental education, and public policy. In 1999, she wrote and published Diet for a Hot Planet: The Climate Crisis at the End of Your Fork and What You Can Do About It, which was highly praised by food activists and researchers alike.

In the book, Anna discusses how what we eat shapes the climate crisis, and how we can all play a role in reversing it. She explains how industrial food production and the use of fertilizers and pesticides contribute to global warming, how eating animal products affects water and land resources, and gives tips for transitioning to a more sustainable diet and lifestyle.

Since then, Anna Lappé has appeared on radio shows and been featured in radio, print, and online news outlets, from Newsweek and DemocracyNow! to the New York Times and Grist magazine. In 2011, she wrote a follow up to Diet for a Hot Planet, entitled Sustainable Table, which focused specifically on sustainable agriculture.

Anna Lappé has also chaired a United Nations-accredited forum and spoken at many universities and conferences around the world. In addition to her work as a writer, Anna has been an active voice in the food justice movement, leading research and organizing efforts around the world.
