Ash Maurya

Ash Maurya is an American entrepreneur and author most widely known for his books: Running Lean, Scaling Lean, and The Lean Product Playbook. As the founder of LeanStack, Maurya provides workshops, education, and other resources on the lean methodology. He has written extensively on the Lean Startup methodology, which has allowed him to become an internationally-renowned thought leader on the topic.

Ash Maurya was born in India and moved to America after completing his undergraduate studies in computer science. After a few years of working in the tech industry and feeling increasingly disenchanted with it, he decided to become an entrepreneur in 2006.

Maurya began by building and selling software products, but quickly realized he needed to gain more visibility. Uncertain how to go about it, he started attending local events, reading articles and books, and engaging with various people in order to focus and refine his ideas. He was soon able to define a more ambitious and defined goal: To create a successful business and provide a product or service of value to his customers.

Maurya gained more resources and insight by attending the Lean Startup Machine, and was further inspired by reading The Lean Startup and other books by Eric Ries. In 2010, Maurya wrote a blog post about his process for building products, which was the spark for the Lean Canvas. The Lean Canvas is an approach to creating a lean business model and has since become popular among entrepreneurs, who have adapted and shared their own versions of Maurya’s original idea.

Maurya’s first book, Running Lean, was published in 2012 and quickly became a bestseller. It was written as a guide for entrepreneurs and innovators and covers the tips and tricks of the lean methodology. Throughout the book, Maurya adds real-world examples and stories to highlight the importance of engineering customer insight, using data to make decisions, and validating the assumptions made throughout the lean process.

The lean methodology is all about reducing waste, maximising resources, and validating the assumptions made at each stage of the process. This is exactly what Maurya sets out to do with his next book, Scaling Lean. In this book, he introduces a model designed to help entrepreneurs and teams build Lean Canvases, identify which tactics will yield the best results, and use resources more effectively.

The Lean Product Playbook is Maurya’s third book, and arguably his most powerful. In it, he outlines seven fundamental questions that guide product teams to their desired outcomes, gives detailed instructions on how to run experiments and tests with customer data, and equips readers with the skills and practices needed for product success.

Maurya has made a significant contribution to the lean methodology and continues to support aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators. He currently offers several LeanStartup workshops, educates companies on the methodology, and advises entrepreneurs from all over the world. His books, Running Lean, Scaling Lean, and The Lean Product Playbook, have been instrumental in helping entrepreneurs and innovators around the world create and scale successful products.
