B. V. Larson

B. V. Larson (whose full name is B. V. Larson and Steven Harper) is a prolific and acclaimed science fiction author. He is probably best known for his Starship Victory series, written with Steven Harper. He has also written several dystopian series, including the Stormlander and the Shattered Empire series.

Born in Washington State, Larson resisted the traditional education route most of his life. Instead, he worked as a kitchen manager while using his free time to write. After a series of stories that were published in magazines, he and Steven Harper began writing the Starship Victory series. To date, there are striking nine books in the series' main storyline, with many more individual books within that world.

The Starship Victory series follows the adventures of the crew of the Starship Victory, a holonovel-style episodic setting highly reminiscent of Star Trek. The stories take place in a future galaxy which is beset by star-faring alien species, advanced and horrible in their power. The crew of the Starship Victory explore and battle these alien menaces to the delight of their fans.

The series has been highly acclaimed, with reviews praising the authors' ability to spin enjoyable stories within the “Star Trek” Universe. It has also spawned several spinoff books, as well as audio and visual media.

The Stormlander series is Larson and Harper's second big venture. It is a cyberpunk-styled series, not too dissimilar from The Matrix or Neuromancer, and follows the trials and tribulations of a hacker, who uses his or her skills to fight against the all-encompassing totalitarian government of a Wall Street-run dystopia. The reviews for this series have also been glowing, praising the world-building, characters, and stories.

Larson and Harper's most recent Dystopian series is the Shattered Empire. This series is also cyberpunk in nature, but, unlike Stormlander, it follows an all-female cast, as a group of empowered hacker/space marines take on a dark military-industrial force with help from unexpected allies. The series has received many good reviews, citing everything from the worldbuilding to the diverse character backgrounds as successes.

Despite his success, Larson's work remains far from mainstream. He has been featured in many fantasy and science-fiction magazines, as well as in fan sites, but still remains relatively unknown to many people. That said, he does have a devoted fan base who eagerly await each new installment of the many series he has created.
