Blake Crouch

Blake Crouch is a New York Times and internationally bestselling author, who has written a diverse selection of thrilling, suspenseful, and heart-pounding books. He has received critical acclaim from a range of publications, including The Washington Post and Publishers Weekly, for his page-turning reads. His novels span genres including science fiction, horror, and suspense, and many further blur the lines between genres and subgenres. Crouch has also written for television and film, including the 2017 feature film Dreamland, along with the acclaimed Amazon Prime Original series, Bliss.

Blake Crouch was born in 1978 in Statesville, North Carolina, and grew up in the nearby town of Mooresville. Initially, he leaned towards writing books with a humorous aim, but after college, he developed an intense interest in thrillers and the mystery-suspense genre. His first novel, Desert Places (2004), was an international bestseller, quickly launching him into a successful writing career. Along with his novelwriting, he ventured into the television industry, openly talking about the experience in interviews. Crouch also launched a newsletter in 2020, in which he shared book recommendations and writing tips.

His novels are mostly standalone – although he occasionally produces book series with multiple volumes – and almost all feature his distinct brand of suspense, featuring unexpected reveals and intense plotlines. Most recently, he wrote his first graphic novel series Marcca in 2020, an original story of a female former U.S. combat medic turned vigilant. All of these books have proved immensely popular and brought him extensive recognition, often appearing on bestseller lists including those from The New York Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal.

Crouch's career took off in 2011 after the release of his Dystopia Trilogy, which included the books Pines, Wayward, and The Last Town in the series. On October 15, 2019, the sci-fi thriller Recursion was released and was met with immense success and critical acclaim, hitting the all-important top spot on the New York Times bestseller list within a month of its release. Throughout 2020, Crouch released 4 books in his best-selling collection of thriller series, all of which achieved wide recognition and success.

Crouch particularly relishes the variety his career offers. In his own words, he told Publishers Weekly: “I would much rather restrict myself to exploring a variety of genres and subgenres, as opposed to being ‘the guy’ who writes thrillers, science fiction, horror, etc. To jump into different worlds with different characters keeps me excited and engaged as a writer.” This year he released both Dark Matter: A Novel and The Heavens: A Novel, which continue both to thrill and captivate readers worldwide.

In just a little over a decade, Blake Crouch has successfully established himself as one of the go-to authors for suspense, science fiction, horror, and thriller genre books. Since his debut in 2004, Crouch has released 14 books that have gained immense recognition and success, such as appearing on The New York Times bestseller list. Additionally, his extensive foray into television and film have further expanded his fanbase and taken his stories to a wider range of readers. He seems well-entrenched to keep readers guessing and reaching for the next book he releases.
