Brad Meltzer
Brad Meltzer is a New York Times bestselling author who has written over a dozen critically acclaimed books in various genres including thrillers, historical fiction, comic books, and children’s literature. He’s also written a series of non-fiction books that focus on themes of identity, patriotism, and heroism.
Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1971, Meltzer has long been an avid reader and book fan. He says the first novel he fell in love with was the “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost, which inspired him to write. When Meltzer was in his third grade math class, he noticed the teacher reading a book and thought to himself that he could write a book too.
Meltzer graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in communications, but during his undergraduate studies he was inspired to write his first novel about a forgotten Founding Father. The book was called “The Tenth Justice” and it was well-received by readers and critics alike. The success of his first novel led to more books in the legal thriller genre, including “The First Counsel”, “The Millionaires”, “The Zero Game” and “The Book of Fate”.
But it wasn’t just thrillers that attracted Brad Meltzer’s imagination. He also wrote two successful historical fiction novels, “The Inner Circle” and “The Book of Lies”, which both explored the secrets and mysteries of American history. Writing these books allowed Meltzer to collaborate with his wife, Cori, and his brother, Joshua.
In 2006, Meltzer turned his attention to comic books and wrote the mini-series “Identity Crisis” which earned him an Eisner Award (the most prestigious industry award). Since then, he’s written several Justice League stories as well as other comics and graphic novels.
But while his novels and comics entertain grown-up audiences, Brad Meltzer also writes books for young readers. He’s the author of several best-selling books for middle-graders, including the “Ordinary People Change the World” series and the “I am…” books. His intention with these titles is that kids of all ages will understand there is no higher goal than to be heroic.
In addition to his writing career, Brad Meltzer is also a television host. He created and starred in the History Channel series “Brad Meltzer’s Decoded” and he also hosted the shows “Lost History” and “Founding Fathers”.
