Brad Stulberg
Brad Stulberg is an award-winning author and consultant who has made a name for himself as a go-to guide for advice based on the science of peak performance. His overall mission is to help people unlock their potential and realize their ambitions.
Born in Fort Collins, Colorado, Stulberg graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in Philosophy. After college, he took up endurance sports, becoming a two-time All-American runner and cycling in some of the biggest races in the world. He competed in the Tour de France, the Hawaii Ironman, and the Western States Endurance Run, among others.
It was during his years as an athlete when he began to research athletes. He wanted to better understand what it took to be the best, and he wrote down his findings in a blog. After enough years, those articles became the basis of his first book “Peak Performance: Elevate Your Game, Avoid Burnout, and Thrive with the New Science of Success”.
In it, Stulberg details what he calls the “Wheel of Optimal Performance”, a four-step process to help people sharpen their focus, find their flow state, and balance between effort and rest. He talks about goal-setting, actively tracking progress, maintaining enthusiasm, and cultivating creative ideas.
The success of Stulberg's first book lead to the writing of his second book “The Passion Paradox: A Guide to Going All In, Finding Success, and Discovering the Benefits of An Unbalanced Life.” This book is geared more towards career-minded professionals, helping them find meaning and focus in their work. Drawing from his own experiences, he explores how high-stakes, full-time careers can become both meaningful and rewarding.
Stulberg’s third book “Pressure Makes Diamonds: How To Thrive When Life’s Opportunities and Challenges Meet” is an encouraging guide to help readers reach what he calls “the growth zone.” It helps people recognize both their limits and their untapped potential and pushes them to use pressure and stress as the driving force to unlock the power of reinvention and self-transcendence.
As of 2021, Stulberg is a columnist for Outside Magazine and lives in San Francisco with his wife and two young children. He's continued to explore the upper limits of human potential, and has written articles, spoken at events, and consulted with organizations and executives on strategies to enhance performance.
At the heart of Stulberg’s writing and consulting is a belief that humans can become more and do more than is thought possible, whether it’s in fitness and sports, business, or life in general. He encourages people to find a balance between work and play, to do something that is both meaningful and enjoyable. He reminds readers that it’s not just about pushing to your limits and achieving, but also about being present and dedicated to the process.
An investment in reading and understanding Stulberg’s work can help readers get focused, get inspired, and strive for a better, higher way of living. His books are filled with practical, thoughtful advice and insights into the science of peak performance. He’s a genuine companion, offering readers the support and motivation they need to push boundaries and exceed expectations.
