Christopher McDougall
Called “the greatest adventure writer of his generation” by Outside Magazine, Christopher McDougall is an author whose career has taken him from a homeless man living in Mexico to writing books that have become international bestsellers. Born in Enid, Oklahoma, McDougall attended Tulsa University, where he began his writing career as a columnist for the school newspaper. From there, he moved to Mexico, where he lived on the streets and wrote articles for the Mexico City News. Upon returning to the United States, he wrote for Philadelphia Weekly and later contributed to Men’s Health, Esquire, and the New York Times Magazine.
McDougall’s first book, Born to Run – A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen, took the running world by storm in 2009. In 2014, McDougall released his second book, Natural Born Heroes – How a Daring Band of Misfits Mastered the Lost Secrets of Strength and Endurance. This book dives even deeper into the running and physical fitness realm by telling the story of a young World War II boy and his adventures learning strength, courage, and endurance from mythically powerful mentors. In order to properly research the book, McDougall took on a grueling physical fitness regime, consisting of various types of running, cross-training, and climbing.
McDougall’s third and most recent book, Then The Kick Came – The Incredible Odyssey of a Horse, His Man and an Unlikely Comeback, released in 2020. This book follows the story of an underdog horse, McDougall, and his owner’s quest to redeem the animal and get him back into horseracing.
