Cixin Liu is an award-winning Chinese science fiction author who has published numerous books, winning acclaim from both his native China and the international literary world. Cixin Liu has become one of the most popular authors in the genre of global science fiction, with his works fetching record-breaking sales in China and beyond. His debut novel, The Three Body Problem, became a major commercial success and received numerous awards, including being the first Asian novel to win the prestigious Hugo Award for best novel.

Born in China in 1963, Cixin Liu developed a passion for science fiction from a young age, reading classic works from the genre, including Isaac Asimov and H.G. Wells. After receiving a degree in engineering from the University of Nankai, he began writing science fiction as a hobby, publishing stories in Chinese magazines. His breakout novel, The Three Body Problem, was published in 2008 and became an instant success, winning the Chinese Galaxy Awards for Best Novel.

The Three Body Problem is set in the near future and focuses on the cultural, scientific and mathematical themes of a time-space continuum and alien invasion. This novel follows the intersecting storylines of a scientist attempting to understand the origin of a mysterious phenomena called the “three-body problem”, and a government official trying to communicate with an alien species which is eying Earth with hostile intent. The novel received critical acclaim and sold over a million copies in China alone.

Cixin Liu has since published five books in The Three Body trilogy, as well as several stand-alone novels such as The Wandering Earth and The Dark Forest. His works have been translated into numerous languages and published in more than thirty countries. His works explore themes of social and spiritual evolution, often highlighting the possibilities inherent in emerging science and technology.

In recognition of his contributions to literature, Cixin Liu has been awarded various prizes and honors. He is the first Asian author to win a Hugo Award for the best novel and has been recognized for his contributions to science fiction in China by the People’s Republic of China.
