Claudia Kluppelberg is a German author, poet and playwright, noted for her innovative storytelling style and socio-political themes. Born in 1952 in Bremen, Germany, Claudia Kluppelberg grew up with a passion for literature, reading works by the likes of Heinrich Heine and Immanuel Kant. She studied literature, education, and psychology at the University of Bremen and the University of Freiburg. In the 1980s, she worked in the Frankfurt book industry as an editor and translator. She soon after turned to writing in earnest, and published her first novel in 1989 titled Die Blechklavier (The Tin Piano).

The Tin Piano was praised for its creative storytelling and well-drawn characters. The novel follows the struggles of a neglected daughter coming of age in a post-war German landscape. Kluppelberg's unique narration, along with her unique insights into the psychological effects of historical events, made The Tin Piano a critical success. It went on to win the Hans Fallada Prize, and was later adapted into a radio play.

Since then, Kluppelberg has published several other novels, including Die Nacht mit Maria (The Night with Maria), Triangel (Triangle), Der Schatten des Schleiers (The Shadow of the Veil), and Im Wald des Bösen (In the Forest of Evil). She has also published three collections of poetry—Der Flug der Seelen (The Flight of the Souls), Der Widerschein des Sterns (The Reflection of the Star), and Der Entführer von Tramaris (The Kidnapper of Tramaris).

In her work, Kluppelberg often delves into socio-political issues and questions of morality. She particularly focuses on life in post-war Germany, exploring its cultural and legal changes, as well as its lingering scars.
