Dan Senor
Dan Senor is a renowned American author, journalist and entrepreneur. He is also a senior advisor to the private investment firm Altimeter Capital, where he focuses on investments in the US and Israel.
Senor is perhaps best known as the co-author of the book Start-Up Nation: The Story of Israel’s Economic Miracle. The book has become a global sensation and examines how Israel has flourished despite military, political and economic challenges. Most importantly, Start-Up Nation highlights how strategic decision-making and culture have been major drivers of the country’s economic resilience. The book’s success proved that, contrary to popular belief, start-ups can thrive in conflict-prone regions and demonstrate how countries can still succeed amid turmoil.
Senor has also authored two other books. In 2009, he wrote a collection of essays entitled Letters to the Next President: Reclaiming the American Dream for the 21st Century. The book was well received by the media, academics and activists across the political spectrum and continues to be cited in scholarly articles and by policy makers.
The second book, Start-Up City: Inspiring Private and Public Entrepreneurship, Getting Projects Done and Having Fun, was published in 2014. The book examines strategies for establishing an entrepreneurial city and puts forth solutions to issues faced by urban centers. In it, Senor champions private sector collaboration with government and analyzes case studies of successful cities.
Prior to his writing career, Senor served in multiple government and private sector roles. Specifically, Senor was the foreign policy advisor to former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, a senior adviser to the secretary of defense Donald Rumsfeld, a member of the US-Israel Business Exchange, and a strategic advisor to the former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The combination of written work and political experience has made Senor a trusted voice in his field and his ideas have impacted governments across the world. In 2018, Senor was awarded a fellowship at the Hoover Institution. During his fellowship, Senor hopes to broaden understanding of the complexities of modern-day security and diplomacy.
In addition to his success as an author, Dan Senor continues to be committed to helping create economic opportunities. He currently serves as a board member of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs and the Koret Israel Economic Development Funds.
Senor has accomplished a great deal in his career and he continues to be an influential voice in the fields of economics, innovation and politics. Despite his success, Senor’s work remains focused on finding strategies for improving global economies and helping create job opportunities for those in need. Additionally, Senor’s books remain a source of information and inspiration for business owners, government leaders, researchers and students alike.
