Daniel Levitin is an American, Canadian, and British-educated scientist, musician, and author, born in 1956 in San Francisco, California. Levitin moved to Montreal, Quebec in his early twenties, completing a BA in psychology at McGill University and then a PhD in psychology at McGill as well. Following his studies, Levitin moved to the US and taught at Stanford University, where he worked in the Human Communication Research Center. Throughout his career, Levitin has worked on a range of issues, from music psychology to technology, for both academic and public contexts.
Levitin is best known for his groundbreaking books and speaking engagements about the relationship between technology and the mind. In 2006, he published the book This Is Your Brain On Music: The Science of a Human Obsession, which delved into the neurological basis of how we process and interpret sound and music.
