Daniel Suarez
Daniel Suarez is an American New York Times best-selling author whose works include novels such as Daemon, Freedom™, Kill Decision, Change Agent, and most recently, Influx. His unique blend of science fiction and technology-based thrillers, have made him a popular novelist and one of this generation’s most dazzling new authors.
Born in 1965, Daniel Suarez was born and raised in California to Cuban immigrant parents, both of whom were native Spanish speakers. Growing up in a Cuban-American culture while still embracing American culture, Dan was exposed to different language, cultures and perspectives, which would later shape his approach to storytelling.
From a young age, Dan was interested in science and computers, but he was also compelled to tell stories. From the age of four, he wrote on the typewriter he was given, a strong indication of the world of writing he would soon be living in. He went on to study computer engineering at California State University in Los Angeles while still finding the time to pursue his writing. After getting his degree in computer engineering and relocating to Connecticut, his work in the software industry influenced his writing, as these experiences provided Dan with the knowledge to explore the realms of technology in compelling and interesting ways.
Dan’s first novel, Daemon, was released in 2006. This book centers around a computer programmer who, before his death, has programmed a computer virus with the mission of reconfiguring the world to a better state. While the novel poses philosophical questions and ruminates on the power of technology, it also serves as a thrilling action-packed story.
The success of Daemon led to the sequels, Freedom™ and Kill Decision. In this trilogy, Dan takes his readers on a high-tech journey that follows a sci-fi thriller par excellence. The trilogy explores the power of machines and their potential for something greater than their human creators.
In 2013, Dan released Change Agent; a story about biohacking, genetic engineering and police detectives. Dan also wrote an interactive mobile app for Change Agent that allowed readers to choose their own adventure. Here, readers were exposed to a different kind of story-telling, one where readers become active participants in the narrative.
In 2014, Dan released Influx, a socio-political thriller that centers around a secret military-funded agency whose mission is to reverse engineer technology found in a UFO, while at the same time battling bureaucrats who are trying to implement a system of over-reaching control on the population. Again, Dan’s expertise in exploring the power of technology and his imagination to craft a captivating story make this novel stand out.
What makes Daniel Suarez an intriguing author is his ability to mix scientific facts with captivating fiction. His novels ask questions pertinent to our current state as well as our future as our technology evolves, and provide an interesting and thought-provoking narrative. Dan has refined his approach to storytelling, creating gripping stories that explore the power of technology with sophisticated detail on numerous topics. Daniel Suarez is an amazing author with a unique style and creative approach to storytelling, and his novels are a must-read for anyone who enjoys science fiction.
