David Ludwig
David Ludwig is an award-winning author dedicated to the power of story-telling. The New York Times bestseller list has deemed some of his works essential reading, such as “How To Survive Middle School” and “Just Add Magic.” He is also the author of two picture books for young readers, “The Great Cake Mystery” and “The Lost Treasure of Treachery Cove.”
David Ludwig was born in New Jersey and studied English at Rutgers University. His love of writing developed early on through a shared laptop in the family home. At the age of 10, he began months-long writing projects that he says not only occupied his mind, but also filled a karaoke-grade void in his home life. His hard work paid off; in 1995, he was presented with the National Book Award for Children's Literature for his first picture book, “The Great Cake Mystery.”
Since then, he has been a part of many award-winning publications. His writing ranges in topic, often providing readers with exciting adventure-filled plots written in a humorous and compelling style. In 2012, his book, “How To Survive Middle School” earned the Texas Library Association’s Maverick Graphic Novel Award. His YA novel, “The Lost Treasure of Treachery Cove” won the 2006 Sibert Honor Award, in addition to being a finalist for the prestigious American Library Association’s Michael L. Printz Award.
Not only has David Ludwig won awards for his books, but he has also earned widespread media and critical acclaim. His works have been praised by Oprah Magazine, Publishers Weekly, School Library Journal, Hornbook Magazine, and many more.
In addition to his award-winning novels and picture books, David Ludwig has also written non-fiction non-fiction for pre-teen audiences. His popular “First Dance” series encourages pre-teens to take the lead in communicating their personal stories and feel empowered to express themselves. He is also the author of “Stop, Think, Express” which is designed to help young people develop the skills to recognize, manage and express emotions.
