David Schwartz is an American author and professor whose work primarily focuses on business and finance. He is best known for his book The Magic of Thinking Big, which was originally published in 1959 and has been revised several times since.

David Schwartz was born in 1916 in New Jersey and received his Bachelor's degree from Columbia University and his Master's degree from New York University. He served in the US Army during the Second World War and worked of director of planning and control in the textile industry between 1945 and 1950. During this time, he also wrote a series of articles on management to the Harvard Business Review.

In 1959 he wrote his book The Magic of Thinking Big which has become a standard for learners of the business world and has sold more than five million copies. Essence magazine said of The Magic of Thinking Big: “It encourages readers to change the way they think and embrace a positive self-image that can lead to success.” Schwartz wanted to show readers how to believe in themselves again and “power their imagination” so they could see the world differently and without limits. As such, readers of the book are instructed to practice affirmations, ask prosperous people how to think (and act) constructively, and visualize success in order to obtain it.

In 1991 Schwartz wrote The Success Classics, a book that analyzes the ideas of the leading authors of the 19th and 20th centuries. He examines the works of Dale Carnegie, Norman Vincent Peale, Napoleon Hill and others, discussing the similarities and differences between their philosophies. This book discusses the importance of education and learning, the value of saving money and investing, and the possibilities of creating your own luck.

In addition to his books, David Schwartz also authored several articles and gave lectures throughout the United States and Canada. He was a featured speaker at the World Business Congress in 1963, and he appeared on the Today show in 1965. He was also the honorary chairman of the board of directors of the National Speakers Association from 1985 to 1988.

In 2000, his home state of New Jersey honored him with a “Star on the Walk of Fame” and the New Jersey Business and Professional Association named him Man of the Year for the 2000 Millennium. These honors recognize the lasting impact of David Schwartz’s work in business and finance.

David Schwartz was a true pioneer, having propelled the field of psychology and business forward with his writings. His ideas and beliefs still guide readers today and serve as a blueprint for success. Through his books, he has taught us the importance and power of thinking big, and inspired us to strive for our own successes.
