Diane Brady

Diane Brady is a journalist, author and nonprofit leader whose work focuses on the intersection of business and social issues. She has worked as a reporter and writer at the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek and Bloomberg BusinessWeek, and has written several books.

Brady graduated from Princeton University in 1984 with a degree in public and international affairs. She went on to receive a master’s degree in international relations from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. With her education under her belt, Brady began her journey as a business journalist. Painstakingly researching in Africa, Brady covered the effects of Apartheid for the Journal.

Brady went on to a successful seventeen years at the Wall Street Journal and Newsweek, where she wrote about the corporate culture in America and the national security of China. It was during this time that she wrote her first book, 2003’s Fraternity – a story of the crippling effects of nepotism in the world of business. Since then, she has also written a book about the Air Force titled No Room for Error and Amazon’s Battle for the Business of Books.

In addition to her extensive career as a journalist, Brady is also a highly respected nonprofit leader. Brady directed Bloomberg News' philanthropic program, Bloomberg Philanthropies, which supports global initiatives focused on public health, the environment, and the arts. Since then, she has served on a number of boards, such as the Groton-Dunstable Regional School Board and the Urban Institute’s Board of Governors. Brady has also served as a creative consultant and guest speaker for various organizations, including the World Economic Forum and TEDxBeaconStreet.

In recent years, Brady has gone back to her writing roots and authored her most recent book, Changing Lanes: Restoring the American Dream Through Sustainable Mobility. This book serves as a manifesto for smarter, safer and more sustainable cities - a call to action for the transportation industry. It sheds a light on the changes taking place in cities and how they can be used to restore the American dream.
