Dick Keyes
Dick Keyes is an author, speaker, and pastor who has written extensively on the spiritual and moral underpinnings of culture. His books, which include 'Loving God With All Your Mind' and 'God and Intelligence in Human History', cover a wide range of topics and focus on bringing a Christian perspective to contemporary issues.
Keyes was born in 1950 and grew up in San Diego, California. After graduating from high school, he attended the Princeton Seminary, where he earned his Master of Divinity. He then went on to earn a doctorate in Religion and Cultures at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. After graduating, Keyes taught at Bethel College in Indiana, eventually becoming the chair of the Religion Department and staying on for 25 years.
Throughout this time, Keyes had been writing articles and giving lectures on topics ranging from the Gospel to contemporary political and social issues. His most famous work is 'Loving God With All Your Mind', where he explores in depth the idea of using what he calls “cognitive evangelism” as a way to reach non-believers.
In this book, Keyes draws on his breadth of knowledge and his background in philosophy to explain the essential elements of a Christian worldview and systematically refute non-belief. He argues that the cognitive message of Christianity is both grounded in evidence and more reasonable than any non-believing alternative.
In his next book, 'God and Intelligence in Human History', Keyes explores a variety of religious and political issues throughout history. He looks at a wide range of topics, including the Greek gods, the Greco-Roman pantheon, sacred and profane ideas in the writings of philosophers such as Plato and Augustine, and battles between religious and scientific knowledge throughout history.
Keyes' most recent book is 'The Race to Save Our Century'. In this book, he takes a broader look at the history of modern society, from the post-WWII era to the present day. He examines how the decline of religion and moral values in Western culture has had a profoundly destabilizing impact on the world, and suggests that a robust and unified approach to values is necessary in order to restore it.
Throughout his writings, Keyes has sought to bring a Christian perspective to the social and cultural issues of our time. He makes clear that “saving our century” starts with each individual, and calls readers to embrace the timeless truth found in the Gospel as the most effective way to build a better world.
By bringing together a scholarly approach to Christian thought with an engaging storytelling style, Keyes has created a body of work that is both thought-provoking and timelessly relevant. His books provide readers with an opportunity to reflect upon the spiritual and moral questions of our time and consider how Christian truth can be applied to current cultural debates.
