Glaude’s book Democracy in Black: How Race Still Enslaves the American Soul (2016) examines how the “sustained and powerful presence of racism” in the US still has wide and deep repercussions for our society today. Glaude proposes a shift in thinking for African-Americans focused on bridging political and economic gaps, building a sense of community, and striving for human dignity and racial justice.
Glaude’s work isn’t restricted only to the written word. He’s been featured on many media outlets, and often appears as a guest lecturer at institutions both in the US and abroad. He has been interviewed by the BBC, The New Yorker, The Washington Post, and CNBC. In 2017, Glaude was featured on the cover of TIME magazine.

He has been a keynote speaker at many national events, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Conference at The Ohio State University.
In 2018, Glaude was awarded the prestigious Carnegie Corporation Great Immigrants Award. He was honored for “his contributions to our nation through his eloquent writing about religion, race, and nation in early African-American and African-Caribbean thought.”
