Elaine Welteroth
Elaine Welteroth is an award-winning author, journalist, and editor of the New York Times bestselling book, More Than Enough: Claiming Space for Who You Are (No Matter What They Say). With a career that has taken her from runway shows to magazine covers, she has also become a major voice and pioneer in fashion, beauty, and social media culture. A powerful role model for millennials, her book and public presence have made her an influential figure in the world of culture and media.
Born in Riverside, California, Elaine began her transition into the public sphere at the age of nine when she competed and won a spot in a local modeling competition. From there, she relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her modeling career at age fifteen, but soon the trajectory shifted when she got the opportunity to be a part of a show for the Black Entertainment Television network. This opened the door for her to become a full time assistant for the musicTV network.
Although she started her career outside of the publishing/journalism industry, opportunity and luck found its way to Elaine when a casting call from Teen Vogue was sent her way. She applied, was hired, and was elevated to the position of Beauty and Health Editor at the age of 24. She was the youngest person, and only African-American, to hold such a high position at the magazine.
Elaine remained for six years at Teen Vogue and during her tenure, she served as an Executive Editor, crafting digital content and personally curating the magazine’s Instagram account. As she rose in the industry, so did she focus on women empowerment and feature stories on young and diverse talent while championing inclusivity and representation, particularly with LGBTQ and POC talent.
In 2017, Elaine moved to Condé Nast Entertainment and began to create, write, direct, and produce digital and television content featuring influencers from various lifestyle fields such as fitness, beauty, and travel, as well as news-making stories for a wide range of platforms.
It was no surprise that following the success of her career in the media industry, her debut memoir was released, which according to the Associated Press, “is part self-help, part workplace memo, part coming-of-age story, part love letter”. More Than Enough solidified herself as a voice of her generation, emphasizing the importance of claiming space without permission and being an advocate for oneself.
In addition to her book and career, Elaine has gone on to make appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and Sway in the Morning. She has earned awards ranging from Stellar Awards and Glamour Women of the Year to Essence's Woke 100 and Ebony's Power 100. As a long time advocate for female and multicultural representation, she has worked with the likes of Calvin Klein, Rihanna, and Beyoncé.
Elaine Welteroth is an unprecedented champion for the world at large and Millennials in particular. She has become an ambassador for inspiring people to live their best lives, in fashion, beauty and beyond, and her memoir demonstrates that self-love and striving for excellence is the only way to live.
