Eric J. Horst is a recognized and beloved author currently living in Grants Pass, Oregon. He is best known as an adventure writer and educator specializing in hiking, fitness and climbing.

Horst grew up in the rural town of Oley, Pennsylvania, where he spent his young childhood exploring the countryside, discovering the outdoors, and the joy of moving his body. He especially enjoyed the games of tag and capture the flag he played with his friends. After graduation, Horst enrolled in college and completed his degree in Physical Education.

This education enabled him to become a physical fitness expert as he went on to teach physical education classes in a private school setting. During this time, he also developed his knowledge and skill in the outdoors. He was inspired by his professor and mentors to explore his passion for the outdoors, fitness and mountaineering. This influence pushed him to become strong and knowledgeable about physical activities in nature, and it is this experience that ultimately shaped Horst’s future successes.

In addition to teaching, Horst became a full-time professional mountaineer. He was involved in various first ascents in the Pacific Northwest and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Some of his most successful expeditions include ascents of Mt. Rainer, Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Whitney, among many other mountains, as well as multiple long-distance trekking adventures. During this time, he also developed a strong passion and knowledge for mountaineering and climbing.

Two of Horst’s most successful works include The Freedom of the Hills and Training for Climbing. The Freedom of the Hills is a comprehensive and detailed guide to mountaineering, developed from years of research, experience, and shared knowledge from mountaineering experts around the world. This book is considered the definitive guide to mountain and climbing safety and value. Training for Climbing is the classic text that provides training advice to help all levels of climbers reach new levels of summit successes.

Over the years, Horst has developed an impressive list of accomplishments and accomplishments. He has published eight books, written numerous magazine articles, and lectured around the world. He also serves as a contributing editor for Climbing Magazine and Climbing World Magazine, and regularly coaches and mentors aspiring mountaineers and climbers.

Horst is considered a contemporary climbing leader and is one of the most highly respected outdoors authors alive. He continues to push his career into larger and more adventurous escapades, and strives to help others fulfill their outdoor goals and dreams. With his knowledge, guidance, and passion, the outdoor world is open to anyone, if they allow Horst to show them the way.
