Eric Weiner
Eric Weiner is a noted journalist, nonfiction author, and public radio host who specializes in exploring the hidden powers of culture, geography, psychology and human behavior. His works cover a range of topics from the impact of global politics and economics to the power of storytelling and meditation. Since the release of his debut book, The Geography of Bliss: One Grump’s Search for the Happiest Places in the World, in 2008, Weiner has released several books. Weiner was born in 1970 in western Massachusetts and spent much of his childhood living in various regions of the United States. After returning home, Weiner found success writing for a variety of newspaper and magazine outlets including The New York Times, The Atlantic, National Geographic and Wired. In 2008, he released his debut book, The Geography of Bliss, which explored the how different countries and cultures perceive and practice happiness. The book was praised by critics and quickly appeared on bestseller lists. A month later, Weiner moved to Dubai as part of an assignment from National Geographic and wrote an article recounting his experience, which was also published as part of The Geography of Bliss.
Weiner continued to explore the science and psychology surrounding happiness in his next book, The Geography of Finally Feeling Like Home: One Grump’s Search for Contentment Across America. This book focused on Weiner’s own experiences as he traveled around the United States in an effort to understand what it feels like to feel “at home”.
His most recent book, The Socrates Express: In Search of Life’s Answers on the Elegant Train, released in 2013, captures Weiner’s journey on the Elegant Express, a luxury train in India filled with noteworthy passengers. Along the way, Weiner discovers his own philosophy on life and reveals his inspiring message: “The biggest challenge we face is being disconnected from ourselves, and the best way to do that is to travel, to explore things that are different from us.”
Weiner’s versatility and versatility as a public figure and an author have earned him numerous awards and recognition. His writing has appeared on the pages of The New York Times, The Atlantic, National Geographic and Wired, among other publications. Weiner is also the host of Here and Now, a public radio show in the United States. In addition, Weiner’s articles have been included in multiple compilations, such as Best American Travel Writing and Best American Science and Nature Writing.
