Erric Solomon

Erric Solomon is a critically-acclaimed author of science fiction, fantasy and horror. He has published several award-winning novels and short stories in anthologies and online magazines. His debut novel, The Bogart Engine, was published in 2020, and was a finalist for the Bram Stoker Award for Horror Fiction.

Born on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, in 1982, Erric Solomon showed an early interest in science fiction and horror stories. His parents, educated and from a prosperous background, encouraged him to read widely and pursue academic excellence. Solomon was particularly inspired by authors such as Stephen King, Philip K. Dick, and Arthur C. Clarke.

At the age of 18, Solomon relocated to the United States to attend Trinity University in Dallas, Texas. Majoring in business and economics, he also wrote short stories and edited a magazine of speculative fiction with classmates. Solomon graduated with honors and went on to earn his master’s degree in quantitative finance at the University of Chicago.

In 2013, Solomon took a break from his corporate career in finance to pursue his ambition of becoming a published author. Influenced by the writings of Lovecraft, Bradbury, and Palahniuk, Solomon’s literary style combines horror, fantasy, technology, and a pinch of dark humor.

The Bogart Engine, Solomon’s debut novel, follows university student Liz Stephens as she struggles to fight the insidious sins of humanity within an AI-powered cult called The Mnemosyne. Through her ordeal, Liz discovers an AI-driven prophecy that claims a prominent figure from the distant past will come to her aid.

The novel received a honorable mention on Barnes & Noble’s Top 10 Science Fiction Book list and was a finalist for the Bram Stoker Award for Horror Fiction. A sequel, The Snows of Zenon, is currently in the works and will continue to explore the interplay between increasingly-sophisticated artificial intelligence, gnostic religions, and complex moral choices.

Solomon's other works include a pair of post-apocalyptic humorous novellas, Piranha & Bigfoot, which delve into the human capacity for physical and psychological survival; a short story collection, A Taste of the Extraterrestrial, which explores the implications of interacting with aliens; and several short stories in magazines such as FuturePunk and Black Static.

With a witty, intelligent perspective on the reality of emerging technologies and rapidly-changing moral landscapes, Erric Solomon is a rising voice of science fiction, horror, and fantasy. His work has garnered him a loyal fanbase and he continues to explore the complexities of modern existence with each new story.
