Garth Stein is an accomplished American novelist, playwright, filmmaker, and director. He is best known for his novel The Art of Racing in the Rain, which was adapted into a feature film in 2019. Stein has written numerous other books and plays, which have won numerous awards and been translated into multiple languages.

Born in Seattle, Washington in 1964, Garth Stein grew up in a creative and literary home surrounded by fiction, non-fiction, books, and stories. His mother was an author and his father was an artist. From a young age, Garth was exposed to writing, and he quickly developed a passion for storytelling. In 1986, he graduated from Yale University with a degree in theater studies and English.

Garth Stein’s breakthrough novel, The Art of Racing in the Rain, was published in 2008 and quickly became an acclaimed international best-seller. The novel follows the story of an American race car driver-in-training and his best friend, a golden retriever named Enzo. The movie did well at the box office and has come to be loved by moviegoers.

Garth Stein’s other works include the New York Times bestsellers Raven Stole the Moon and How Evan Broke His Head and Other Secrets. He also wrote the bestselling children’s book A Sudden Light, a hauntingly beautiful story of life, death, and redemption. Stein has also written numerous plays, such as San Francisco’s Mission Playhouse production of Richard III and the musical accompaniment to Me and My arrow.
