Greg was born in San Francisco and grew up in Oakland. He attended Stanford University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, and later a law degree from the University of Chicago. In 2003, Greg Lukianoff co-founded FIRE. This organization is dedicated to defending and preserving individual rights on America’s college campuses. The organization’s aim is to ensure that student rights remain intact, and that students can speak freely without fear of censorship or censorship through campus policies or practices.

FIRE was instrumental in fighting for the rights of students in order to keep them from being punished for their speech, even when it was deemed to be offensive or controversial. They have also been active in defending religious expression, as well as LGBTQ rights on college campuses, among other issues.

Greg Lukianoff has published a number of books on civil liberties and the effects of technological advancement on our lives. His book Unlearning Liberty: Campus Censorship and the End of American Debate examines the censorship of speech on college campuses and its implications for the future of American debate. His book The Right to Be Wrong: Ending the Culture War over Religion in America examines the important role religion plays in culture and seeks to explain why we need to respect the beliefs of others, even if we don’t agree with them.

Most recently, Greg published the above-mentioned book with Jonathan Haidt, The Coddling of the American Mind. This book examines the impact of helicopter parenting and the rise of “safetyism” on college campuses. It delves into how this mindset has created an atmosphere on many campuses where students are coddled and shielded from reality and difficult conversations which could ultimately prevent them from developing emotional intelligence and resilience necessary to thrive in the world.

Greg’s work has been featured in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, National Affairs, and more. His legal writing has been cited by the U.S. Supreme Court, and he has received a number of awards for his work, including the National Constitution Center’s 2018 “Philadelphia Freedom Award”.

Greg Lukianoff is a passionate advocate for free speech and individual rights, and his books are a must-read for anyone seeking to better understand how technological advancement and the coddling of our generation is impacting our lives and our future. Through his work with FIRE, Lukianoff continues to fight for the rights of students and the defense of civil liberties.
