Gregory Zuckerman
Gregory Zuckerman is an American author and senior writer at The Wall Street Journal, where he covers finance and private equity. In his books and articles, he has examined many of the most influential figures and events in finance, from hedge fund managers to the financial crisis of 2008.
Gregory Zuckerman began his career at The Wall Street Journal in 1995, and over the next two decades he wrote about business, markets, and finance. From 1997 to 2006, he penned the "Heard on the Street" column on the front page of the Journal’s Economy section. In 2006 he moved over to become a senior finance writer, covering hedge funds and the U.S. Department of the Treasury. In 2008 he won a Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the U.S. financial crisis.
A Yale graduate, Gregory Zuckerman has written two books. The first was The Greatest Trade Ever: The Behind-the-Scenes Story of How John Paulson Defied Wall Street and Made Financial History (2009). It tells the story of John Paulson, a hedge fund manager who made billions of dollars by predicting the collapse of the U.S. housing market in 2007. The book was named one of BusinessWeek’s Best Books of 2009 and was a New York Times Best Seller.
His second book, The Frackers: The Outrageous Inside Story of the New Billionaire Wildcatters (2014), tells the story of the shale gas revolution, which has transformed energy markets in the United States. The book was a finalist for the 2014 Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award.
In 2017, Gregory Zuckerman wrote The Man Who Solved the Market: How Jim Simons Launched the Quant Revolution (2019). In this book, he tells the story of Jim Simons, a former mathematics professor and hedge fund pioneer who has become one of the most successful investors in the world. He uses Simons' career as a lens to investigate the broader quant revolution, which is the movement to use sophisticated math and computer models to make investment decisions. The book was a Wall Street Journal Bestseller.
In addition to his work at The Wall Street Journal and his books, Gregory Zuckerman has written for The New York Times, New York Magazine, and Forbes, among other publications. He has appeared on several media outlets, including NBC, CNBC, and Fox News. In 2013 he was named a Fellow of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences.
