Howard K. Bloom

Howard K. Bloom is a writer who has built a name for himself in a variety of genres, from fiction to nonfiction. Bloom was born in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Queens College with a degree in Psychology. He went on to pursue a master’s in social work from New York University, before ultimately pursuing a career in writing.

Bloom is best known for his 2001 nonfiction book, The Lucifer Principle: A Scientific Expedition into the Forces of History. The Lucifer Principle strives to answer the question of why life on earth is so full of horror and evil, melding hard scientific evidence with Bloom’s philosophical musings. In this book, Bloom proposes that evolutionary forces at work on groups – dubbed “the Lucifer principle” – are responsible for such things as racism, wars, and other atrocities.

In addition to The Lucifer Principle, Bloom has penned a trilogy of science fiction novels: Ishmael’s Eyes, Condor’s Delight, and Phoenix Rising. Ishmael’s Eyes is set in an underground city beneath the Sahara desert and follows two protagonists, an exploration team member from Earth and her synthetic roommate from off-world. The team enters the underground city to discover that it has been overrun by a group of religious fanatics – the second book, Condor’s Delight, follows the team as they struggle to free the captive population from this cult. In the third book, Phoenix Rising, the team returns to the surface world to face the consequences of their actions. It’s a thrilling, suspenseful story laden with moral questions and thought-provoking scenarios.

In addition to writing fiction and nonfiction, Bloom has become known as a successful entrepreneur. Inspired by the natural lighting he experienced in the virtual reality landscapes of his sci-fi trilogies, Bloom created Lighting Bionics, a company that develops medical devices that offer a unique form of phototherapy that’s effective in treating the symptoms of multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and autism.

Howard K. Bloom is an author of great breadth, writing works that meld scientific fact with philosophical speculation, thrilling science fiction with meaningful moral messages, and scientific ventures with successful entrepreneurial endeavors. It’s his writing that continues to draw readers in, and his incredible creativity that makes him a beloved author.
