Innosanto Nagara

Innosanto Nagara is a celebrated Indonesian-born author, illustrator, and political activist whose work has been praised as uplifting and empowering. He is best known for his illustrated children's books that use the storybook format to teach about civil rights, political activism, and graphic design. His award-winning works include A is for Activist, Counting on Community, and My First Book of Protest.

Nagara was born in Indonesia in 1974 and moved to the United States as a child. From an early age, he was exposed to different cultures and witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of poverty and inequality. As an adult, he dedicated his efforts toward preparing future generations to unite against oppression and fight injustice.

Nagara uses simple stories and colorful images to teach children about the history of civil rights and the importance of social activism. In A is for Activist, the ABCs become a platform to discuss issues such as corporate power and environmental consciousness. Counting on Community focuses on building a more equitable and tolerant society, while My First Book of Protest highlights the power of nonviolent protest.

He is also a program director for the Bay Area International Day of Action, a project that celebrates and honors the social accomplishments of individuals and groups.
