James Frey
James Frey is an accomplished author and screenwriter from Cleveland, Ohio. He is best known for his controversial memoir, "A Million Little Pieces" (2003). His works span genres, such as fiction, non-fiction, autobiography, and poetry. Frey has published nine books and has written numerous screenplays.
Early Life
James Frey was born on September 12, 1969, in Cleveland, Ohio, to two loving parents. His father, Leonard, was the son of a Jewish immigrant, while his mother, Mona, was the daughter of an Italian immigrant. Growing up in Cleveland, Frey was exposed to a wide range of cultures and lifestyles. He attended Ohio State University and attended the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at East Carolina University.
Writing Career
Frey began to write fiction at a young age, though he didn't get serious about honing his craft until he was in college. His first book, A Million Little Pieces, was published in 2003. Although it met with some critical acclaim, it was also met with controversy when it was revealed that certain elements of the memoir were fabricated. This did not stop Frey from writing and promoting his other works.
Frey's next major book, My Friend Leonard (2005), was also a memoir about his friendship with Leonard, a former drug user who went to prison for fraud and theft. The book was a best-seller and was subsequently adapted into a movie starring Johnny Depp in 2007.
Frey has also written two books of poetry, "Bright Shiny Morning" (2008) and "The Final Testament Of The Holy Bible" (2011). Bright Shiny Morning was the first fiction book Frey put out since A Million Little Pieces, and the book was also adapted into a movie in 2009. The Final Testament of The Holy Bible is a wildly controversial book, as it is an alternate version of the biblical text. The book was praised for its boldness, yet also scorned for its irreverence.
In addition to his literary works, Frey has also ventured into the world of screenplays. He has written for films, television shows, and video games. His works include Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), Buffy The Vampire Slayer (2003), and The Walking Dead (2010).
Legacy
James Frey has proven to be a prolific and controversial author who has written some of the most memorable books and screenplays in recent memory. His works are known for their complexity and deal with a wide range of topics, from drug addiction to biblical retellings. Although his books were met with mixed reactions, there is no denying that Frey has carved out a unique place for himself in the literary world and has left a legacy that very few can match.
