Jessica Wattman
Jessica Wattman is one of the most celebrated authors of the new millennium. Her books have been praised for their insightful and captivating storytelling, as well as their powerful characters and themes. Born in 1975, Jessica Wattman has written over ten novels, including the critically acclaimed Belzhar, and the 2020 Young Adult Fantasy novel Singer from the Sea. Her books have been published in over 24 different countries and featured on various best seller lists.
Belzhar tells the story of Jam Gallahue, who is sent away to a special boarding school for teens with emotional problems, and discovers the world of Belzhar, where she’s able to experience the life she wishes she could have. Jam comes to understand the importance of facing one's difficult emotions and experiences, and ultimately learns to accept the inevitable change in her life, despite the hardships she has to endure.
Wattman’s latest book, Singer from the Sea, is centered around a young man, Kithros, who is sent to a mysterious and alluring island, to help save the land from an impending darkness. Kithros discovers many secrets during his quest, and he learns to appreciate the beauty of the natural world, as well as his own voice and power within it. Throughout his journey, he discovers courage and determination and learns to overcome his fears and doubts.
