Jimmy Soni
Jimmy Soni is an author, entrepreneur, and award-winning journalist with a unique set of career paths and experiences that culminates in his current role as Senior Vice President of Content at Imaginative Ventures. Throughout his professional life, Soni has explored the diverse realms of technology, business, and politics. He is best known for his books and research into diplomacy, global affairs, and human rights.
Soni was born in India in 1981 and immigrated to the United States with his family in 1989. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2003 with a double major in political science and philosophy. After graduation, Soni worked as a technology analyst in Washington, D.C. and then as a business writer for technology publication Red Herring. During his time at Red Herring, Soni hosted a nationally syndicated radio show and podcast.
In 2009, Soni was accepted into the London School of Economics and received his MA in Diplomatic Studies. Upon graduation, he returned to the U.S. and became a Visiting Fellow at the Rudd Center for International Relations at the University of Pittsburgh. In this role, Soni conducted research, organized panel discussions and international conferences, and delivered speeches around the world.
Soni’s career pivot happened in 2017, when he rejoined the world of tech journalism and took up the role of Managing Editor at the news publishing start-up, Axios. The award-winning journalist then wrote two controversial books during this period – “Rome’s Last Citizen: The Life and Legacy of Cato, Mortal Enemy of Caesar” and “A Day in the Life of the Roman Senate”. The books were widely acclaimed for their insights into Roman history, politics, and culture.
Since then, Soni has gone on to become a Senior Vice President at Imaginative Ventures, where he leads the development of new technologies, content strategies, and products. He is also a contributing columnist for The Atlantic and has appeared on a variety of media outlets, such as C-SPAN, NPR, and even TEDx. Soni has also published research on topics ranging from human rights, international diplomacy, and global media to the economics of global trade. He is regularly invited to conference, lectures, and panels all around the world to discuss his diverse portfolio.
