John Crowley

John Crowley is an acclaimed author whose works of fantasy, science fiction, and other genres have earned him multiple honors, including the National Book Award, the World Fantasy Award, and the Locus Award. Though he has written several novels, he has also written many short stories, plays, and essays, as well as a science-fiction novel, The Chemical Wedding. Crowley was born in the small town of Presque Isle, Maine in 1942. He attended the University of Michigan, where he majored in English, and then went on to receive his master's degree in English from Indiana University in 1966. Crowley's first novel was The Deep, published in 1975. The novel follows the lives of two lovers, who are astronauts living in a world where Earth no longer exists. The themes of the novel are highly topical, discussing science-fiction topics such as global warming and technological advances.

The great critical success of The Deep earned Crowley attention throughout the literary world. His second novel, Beasts, was published in 1976 and received the National Book Award. This novel is set in an alternate world that is populated by strange creatures and mysterious artifacts.

Crowley then proceeded to publish the critically acclaimed novel Little, Big in 1981, which earned him a World Fantasy Award. The novel follows the life of a family living in a mysterious house, whose history is filled with magical events and fantastic creatures. Crowley also wrote a sequel to Little, Big in 1986, called Ægypt.

In 1996, Crowley published what is arguably his most acclaimed work, The Chemical Wedding. This novel follows a scientist whose work with a mysterious element leads him to a fantastic world ruled by individual imagination. The novel is considered to be Crowley's best, and earned him a further nomination for the World Fantasy Award.

In addition to his novels, Crowley has also written many short stories. These include stories about his home state of Maine, Celtic folklore and the fantastic, and animals. Many of his stories have earned him great accolades, and his work is considered to be both thought-provoking and imaginative.
