John Helyar

John Helyar is a journalist and author who has written for a number of publications, including The Wall Street Journal, Fortune and The New York Times. His books, which have earned him a loyal following, focus on a diverse range of topics related to history, business, finance, and politics.

Helyar graduated from Harvard in 1983 with a degree in literature. Johnson and Richard Nixon during their presidencies, and chronicles the events that led to their eventual downfall. “The Club” was met with overwhelming positive reviews, and was selected as one of the best books of 1998 by The New York Times.

Helyar's third book, “Collision Course: The Inside Story of The Reagan-Bush Election”, was published in 2005. In this book, Helyar provides a behind the scenes account of the bitter campaign that pitted Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush against each other in the 1980 Republican presidential primary. It highlights both the political and personal struggles that surrounded the race, and provides a unique insight into the practice of modern day American politics.

Helyar's other books include “New Deals: The Scandal Behind the Treasury Revealed”, “The Powers that Be: The Rise of a Force Insightful Business and Political History” and “The Lies of The Land: Politics, Money and Real Estate in The New South”, as well as several other titles.
