John Hennessy
John Hennessy is an American author and professor of English at Salisbury University. With a strong dedication to both the literary world and higher education, Hennessy has published several books and short stories, as well as numerous essays and articles, and continues to teach regularly.
Born and raised in Maryland, Hennessy earned his undergraduate degree in English Literature at Johns Hopkins University before receiving a Masters in Fine Arts from Ohio University. It was during this time that his interest in writing began to further develop. After this, Hennessy went on to earn his PhD in English Literature from the University of Maryland.
Following the completion of his academic career, Hennessy pursued a teaching career. In the fall of 1991, he began teaching at Salisbury University, where he is currently a professor of English. During this time, he was also commending his published works, writing critically acclaimed novels and short stories.
Hennessy’s writing covers a wide range of topics, such as literature, history and social issues. He has also crafted several works that tell stories based on his own life experiences, including his memoir My Name Is John Hennessy. These stories often wear their heart on the sleeve and provide a powerful perspective on the human condition.
Hennessy has also published a few books of essays, including From the Mouth of the River and Of Human Bondage, which provide readers with an insight into his personal beliefs and outlooks. His most recent collection, Our Sweet Misery, was released in 2018 to overwhelmingly positive reviews.
In recent years, Hennessy has continued to focus primarily on his teaching career while still dedicating some time to writing fiction. He has also become increasingly involved in the publishing world, consistently expressing his support for new and upcoming authors who, he believes, have just as much potential as the established world of literature.
In addition to his writing, Hennessy is also an accomplished professor. He has developed several courses at Salisbury University, covering literary greats such as James Joyce, William Faulkner and Toni Morrison. His education philosophy and warmth are evident in the way he mentors and supports his students, always seeking to inspire a love of writing in them.
Throughout his career, John Hennessy has maintained a strong reputation as both an author and professor. His dedication to the literary world and higher education has contributed to challenging conversations that outlive the boundaries of the classroom. Hennessy continues to teach regularly, while his impressive collection of published works grows each year.
