John Robbins
John Robbins is an American author most known for his book “Diet for a New America”, in which he explores the environmental, ethical, and health implications of food production from an ethical standpoint. He has also written several other books addressing many of the same issues, such as “The Food Revolution: How Your Diet Can Help Save Your Life and Our World” and “Healthy at 100: How Nature and Choice Could Save Your Life”. Robbins has been a leading figure in the modern food revolution, advocating for plant-based diets as a way of life.
Robbins was born in California in 1947. His father, Irven Robinson, was a successful Baskin-Robbins franchise owner and his mother, Dorothy Louise Robbins, was a professional dietician. Growing up, Robbins was educated in two private schools in California, first attending the Ellis School and then high school in San Francisco. Despite his privileged upbringing, he was determined to become a fighter for social justice and worked with various organizations while attending college.
In 1967, Robbins received a degree in International Studies and Literature at UC Berkeley. After spending a brief period as a legal assistant in Europe, he moved back to California and enrolled in the San Francisco College of Physicians and Surgeons. Upon graduation, Robbins founded Earth Save, an environmental organization which promotes vegan lifestyles, sustainable agriculture, and the preservation of animal habitats. Robbins is also a co-founder of The Food Revolution Network, which helps to connect people around the world who are interested in sustainable and ethical food.
Robbins is well-known for his deep respect and concern for the well-being of animals, and his writings are largely based on his belief that a vegan diet is the healthiest and most ethical choice. “Diet for a New America” was the result of nine years of research, in which Robbins investigated the physiological, ecological, and spiritual aspects of food production. The book is often heralded as a “seminal work”, and helped to move the topic of health and sustainability into mainstream discussion.
In “The Food Revolution”, Robbins expands upon his ideas about healthy eating and sustainability, taking on the policies of fast-food chains, factory farming, and factory fishing. He also examines the links between health and nutrition, exploring the implications of unhealthy diets. Robbins ends the book by offering practical tips and advice to help the reader create a healthier lifestyle.
Robbins’s most recent book is “Healthy at 100: How Nature and Choice Could Save Your Life”, in which he outlines the steps necessary to achieve a long and healthy life. In this book, he examines a wide range of topics, including the scientific evidence surrounding diet and health, the psychological aspects of eating, and the importance of exercise, sleep, stress management, and positive thinking.
John Robbins has been making waves in the nutrition and sustainability movements for decades and continues to be a source of inspiration and education for many. His books are widely-acclaimed, and their messages have resonated with people around the world who strive for a healthier and more sustainable world.
