John Zeratsky
John Zeratsky is a prolific author and consultant who has been making waves in the world of books and business for the last ten years. A former Google design partner and “maker” at Google Ventures, Zeratsky’s most recent project is Make Time: How to Focus on What Matters Every Day, a national bestselling guide to finding focus and reclaiming your day. Zeratsky lives in San Francisco and runs JZ Media, a company helping teams unlock their creative potential and make remarkable products.
Zeratsky began his career in 1995 as a product designer and software developer at Apple Computer, where he explored creative ways of integrating technology into people’s lives. In 2002, he left Apple to explore his passion for web applications through consulting. During that time, Zeratsky founded two start-ups, Reflection Software and GroupFlier, and consulted with a score of marquee companies from YouTube to Nokia.
In 2006, Zeratsky joined Google, where he enjoyed four highly productive years as a design partner, leading design initiatives for products such as Google Calendar, Google Reader, and YouTube. While at Google, he also pioneered “design charrettes,” rapid brainstorming, concepting, and design sessions that have since become fixtures at Google, other tech companies, and beyond.
In 2010, Zeratsky co-founded JZ Media to pursue ambitious long-term design projects. Later that same year, he joined Google Ventures as Design Lead and “maker,” forming product teams and helping to create innovative products as part of Google’s global reach in venture investing.
Alongside consulting and running JZ Media, Zeratsky reached a new fan base when his first book, Make Time: How to Focus on What Matters Every Day, was published in 2018. An Amazon best seller, the book dives into Zeratsky’s own experience with managing his time and achieving focus, and offers strategies to help readers find focus and meaning.
