In 1980, Galloway wrote his first book, Flashbacks: On Returning to Vietnam, which covers his experiences as a war correspondent in the late sixties. After the Iraq invasion in 2003, he wrote a two-part series in 2003 and 2004 entitled, “We Were Soldiers Once…and Young,” which has since been published into a powerful bestseller. The book is based on his personal recollections as a participant in the 1965 battle of Ia Drang in Vietnam and chronicles the trials and tribulations of both American and Vietnamese forces. In 2009, alongside Lt. General Hal Moore, he released a sequel to “We Were Soldiers Once”, entitled We Are Soldiers Still: A Journey Back to the Battlefields of Vietnam.

Galloway’s most recent book, Heart of a Soldier: A Story of War and Love (2017), recounts the true story of William Sarra and Emily Hawley, who served together in Iraq as members of the U.S. Special Forces. In Heart of a Soldier, Galloway brings together his expertise in both military and journalistic realms to create a vivid and detailed narrative of the events and emotions surrounding that fateful mission and its consequences.

Throughout his long career, Galloway has written numerous un-fiction works and articles, including multiple biographies, autobiographies, and histories covering various wars.
