Kurt Andersen

Kurt Andersen is an American journalist and the award-winning author of fiction and non-fiction books. With his quirky wit and intellectual insights, Kurt Andersen has been a successful voice in the literary world for over two decades.

Best known for his work as the host of the public radio program “Studio 360,” Kurt shares his passion for books and culture with listeners each week. His popular show is broadcast in over 250 markets, making Kurt one of the most recognizable public radio personalities in the country.

Kurt began his career as a writer and editor. After writing for Time Magazine, the Chicago Tribune, The New York Times Magazine, and The Washington Post, he eventually became the editor of The New York magazine in 1992. Kurt’s work at The New York magazine earned him the National Magazine Award for General Excellence in 1996.

In 1998, Kurt published his first novel, “Turn of the Century”. The book tells the story of two fictional characters whose lives become intertwined in the heyday of the dot-com bubble of 1999. While economic optimism abounded in the late 1990s, Kurt turns a critical eye to the tech-heavy environment, which he believes is actually more troubled than it appears.

Kurt gained further recognition for his 2005 non-fiction work “Heyday”. In the book, he takes readers on a historical journey back to the golden age of American culture from the 1950s to the 1970s. The book won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and was critically acclaimed by the New Yorker, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times.

In 2009, Kurt published “True Believers”, a memoir detailing his upbringing in a conservative Catholic family in Omaha, Nebraska. Kurt’s story is as much a coming of age tale as it is a look at the shifting views in American politics and society over time.

Kurt has often written about and commented on current events. In his 2017 non-fiction book titled “Fantasyland”, Kurt examines the rise of conspiracy theories, fake news, and religious extremism in the United States. He argues that the nation has become a “post-truth” nation where people are more likely to believe falsehoods than facts.

Today, Kurt continues to produce “Studio 360”, which he also publishes as a podcast. His most recent book, “Evil Geniuses”, is a work of fiction that follows the lives of three midwesterners who try to manipulate the tech and media industry to their advantage.

Kurt Andersen is a journalist, editor, and best-selling author who has earned accolades for his incisive and often comedic insights into the times we live in. As he continues to write and share his unique worldview, Kurt is sure to remain an influential figure in the literary landscape for years to come.
