Larry D. Rosen

Larry D. Rosen is an American author, psychologist and technology consultant. He has written several books and articles exploring the impact of technology on young people and their development. His research has spanned the areas of social networking, cyberbullying, the effects of video games and online gaming, the use of iPods, and internet addiction. He has been featured in a number of national media outlets, such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Los Angeles Times.

Rosen is a professor emeritus of psychology at California State University, Dominguez Hills. He is also a technology consultant and the president of the consulting firm, Impact Interactive Media. He holds a doctorate in social and organizational psychology from the University of Southern California and a master’s degree in urban affairs from The New School.

Rosen’s primary area of research is the impact of technologies on people and the psychology of using and interacting with technology. He is particularly passionate about the effects technology has on our social interactions and relationships, as well as its potential to help youth better manage digital media and technology. In addition to writing, Rosen also speaks publically about his research. His stance is that new technologies can be both advantageous and detrimental, depending on how they are used and implemented. His ultimate goal is understanding and utilizing the strengths of technology to facilitate positive development and mental health.

Rosen has published several books and articles focused on technology and its effects on young people. His first book, "iDisorder: Understanding Our Obsession With Technology and Overcoming Its Hold on Us," explores how technology and its various platforms, can adversely affect users. Another book, "The iConnected Parent," provides advice for how parents can help children develop healthy online and social media use, as well as create an internet-safe environment. His third book, "Reclaiming Childhood: From Technology Takeover to Balance & Joy," focuses on how parents can protect their families from the potential negative influence of technology and the digital world.

Rosen also published a book titled “My Space, My Self: The Impact Of Social Media On Identity,” dedicated to investigating the intersection between identity identity and the way technology impacts our life experiences. His other book, “Generation Me: Why Today’s Young Americans Are More Confident, Assertive, Entitled—& More Miserable Than Ever Before,” looks at the psychological effects of the high-pressure and competitive culture of the 21st century, as well as potential solutions for improving mental health in young people. Finally, Rosen’s “I Don't Want To Be Friends With You: Social Media and Social Anxiety,” discusses the various anxieties we experience when sharing our lives online and the importance of building healthy relationships.

In addition to his books and research, Rosen is actively involved in a variety of tech-related activities. He is a regular contributor to Huff Post, Mind Matters, and other publications. He is also a founding member of the International Association for Social Media and a scientific advisor for Knewton, an adaptive learning platform. Rosen has been honored with a range of awards, including being named one of the top 25 experts on therapist self-disclosure, and being chosen as the 2016 recipient of the National Education Association’s National Technology Leadership Award.
