M. L. Rio is an American author and editor of speculative fiction best known for her unsettling stories and novels, which explore the inner workings of the human mind. She is often noted for her stylistic use of the second-person point of view, wherein the main character is addressed directly, drawing the reader into their interior world. Rio was born and raised in South Carolina, and she currently lives in North Carolina. She received her undergraduate degree in philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her master's from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She has since gone on to publish five short story collections and three novels, most recently The List of Giant Human Bones.
