Marco Iansiti
Marco Iansiti is a professor of business and technology at Harvard Business School. He is the author of several books, including The Real-Time Revolution: Harnessing the Power of Digital Transformation (published in 2020) and The Keystone Advantage: Restore America’s Competitive Edge Through a National Innovation Investment (published in 2021).
Iansiti has been a professor of business and technology at Harvard for over 20 years and has studied the effects of digital transformation on business and the economy as a whole. He is a renowned speaker and thought leader on issues related to business and technology and often serves as an advisor and consultant to major companies. Iansiti is also a sought-after expert in digital business strategy and has worked with various organizations, including the Harvard University Innovation Lab and Startup Croatia, to help them develop proactive strategies and structure their businesses for the digital age.
Iansiti’s debut book, The Real-Time Revolution, examines the radical changes introduced by the internet of things and the significance of increasingly real-time data capture and analysis in today’s digital world. In this book, Iansiti argues that businesses must move away from traditional processes which do not provide an accurate picture of their customer base and the changing landscape of their industry. He states that, from retail to transportation, healthcare to finance, understanding and utilizing real-time data can revolutionize how a business functions. He outlines the strategies and steps businesses need to take advantage of the digital revolution and seize the opportunities that come with it.
In his second book, The Keystone Advantage, Iansiti offers a bold vision for America’s economic future. He proposes a National Innovation Investment (NII) that could restore America’s competitive edge and boost its economy. Iansiti points out that the US government has been largely absent in investing in innovation. He argues that the government should create a new investment fund, the NII, to finance projects related to digital transformation, artificial intelligence and robotics, and renewable energy.
Iansiti contends that the investments made through the NII should be targeted toward areas of national interest such as health care and clean energy, and to resources that would help companies accelerate the process of digital transformation. Iansiti states that the NII could be used to build a high-tech infrastructure in the United States, one that would aid American businesses in competing with their international counterparts.
Iansiti is also co-author of the new book, Platform Revolution: How Networked Markets are Transforming the Economy, which was released in 2016. The book explores how businesses can use the connected economy to reach their goals and build profitable platforms on which to fuel their growth. Iansiti and his co-authors explore the transition from traditional business models to those based on the internet, advances in digital platforms and the effects of marketplaces and connected networks.
Despite the fact that his books may vary in theme, Iansiti’s core message remains the same— that businesses must recognize the ever-changing digital landscape and understand that the resources and strategies available today can create success. Whether it’s through digital transformation, a national investment fund, or building platforms, Iansiti’s writing encourages companies to think outside of the box and harness the power of digital transformation to stay ahead of the competition.
