Marcus Luttrell

Marcus Luttrell is one of the most highly decorated veterans in modern American military history. An author, speaker, and philanthropist, Luttrell has become an inspiration for his courage, determination, and admirable resolution.

Luttrell was born in 1975 in Houston, Texas. Growing up, he was surrounded by strong military influences from both his father, who had served in the US Navy, and his uncles, who were Vietnam veterans. In March of 1999, Luttrell decided to follow in their footsteps, enlisting in the US Navy as a SEAL.

In his storied career as a Navy SEAL, Luttrell earned several honors, most notably a Purple Heart and a Navy Cross. His service was marked by bravery and grit; He participated in a host of daring rescue missions, including a daring mission in Afghanistan in 2005, later detailed in his book Lone Survivor.

On that mission, Luttrell and a three-man SEAL team were tasked with infiltrating the birthplace of Mullah Mohammad Omar in order to verify his presence and gather intelligence on Taliban leadership. After fighting their way to a remote mountaintop village, the team was discovered by Taliban fighters and attacked. Luttrell and his fellow SEALs fought fiercely against their attackers, but eventually their position was overrun. In the chaos that ensued, Luttrell was the only one to survive. In spite of his grave wounds, Luttrell evaded his pursuers and managed to escape to safety.

Since this incredible incident, Luttrell has written two books, ranked among the New York Times bestsellers. The first, “Lone Survivor” is an account of his ordeal in Afghanistan, while the second, “Service”, is a memoir dedicated to Luttrell’s comrades – the fallen heroes of the SEAL team who lay their lives down for the sake of their mission. This book was awarded the Audie Award for Nonfiction for 2014.

Further, seeking to honor and memorialize his fallen teammates, Luttrell established the Lone Survivor Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to aiding soldiers, veterans and their families. The foundation provides a variety of programs and initiatives to address the issues and challenges faced by members of the military.

In the course of his career, Luttrell has been a staunch advocate for our military and veterans, gaining the admiration of many for his nobility and self-sacrifice. The story of his stand against the enemy in his fight for survival has captivated many, and has earned him the distinction of being a true American hero and a passionate advocate for the military, veterans, and their families.

Marcus Luttrell is an inspirational figure and a modern-day symbol of courage and service. He has dedicated his life to honoring and supporting our military, and his many acts of selflessness are a testament to his spirit, showing us all that heroism is not a mere figure of speech; it’s a way of life.
