Michael D. Smith is an internationally acclaimed author who has written books about adventure and the power of the human spirit. From his first book, Through the Equalizing Glass, to his most recent work, Hunter's Bestiary: Exploring the Power of Storytelling, Smith writes stories that encourage readers to be open to new experiences and to follow their unique paths.

Smith was born in Los Angeles, California, but his family moved to Colorado while he was still a child. He grew up in the outskirts of Denver and during his free time, he filled notebooks with stories and poems. He developed a strong connection with nature and enjoyed being outdoors, which would eventually become an important part of his books. Smith attended University of Wyoming for his undergraduate degree. After graduating, Smith was accepted into the Vermont College of Fine Arts and earned his Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Children and Young Adults in 2009.

Smith’s first book, Through the Equalizing Glass, was released in 2017 and was an Amazon Best Book of the month selection. This adventure novel follows four teens who are on a quest to save the world from a rising tide of darkness. As they venture through dreamlike lands, they must rely on their wits and newfound knowledge to push back the darkness and uncover the source of the evil.

In 2019, Smith released Hunter's Bestiary: Exploring the Power of Storytelling. This work follows a teenage girl as she discovers the power of storytelling and embarks on a journey of her own. Hunter must grapple with powerful forces while relying on her inner strength and knowledge to save those she loves. As she battles the forces of fear, violence, and hate, Hunter discovers how stories can be used to make sense of a confusing world, protect those she loves, and ultimately save her own life.

Smith is also the author of two picture books: The Little Whistle and Little Dancer and the Moon. Both stories dive into the power of imagination and show children the beauty of dreaming, believing in themselves, and never giving up.

More recently, Smith has been working on the upcoming paranormal fantasy novel, Third Thread. This book is set in a fantastical world where humans, monsters, and gods all vie for power. With a new war brewing and the safety of humanity hanging in the balance, a group of friends must unite to save the world and bring about a new era of peace.
