Michael Voss
Michael Voss is an American author who has written books for children, young adults and adults. He is best known for his award winning series, The Adventures of Lucky Lockwood and The Witches of Northwood.
Michael Voss was born on November 5, 1948, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Harold and Jean Voss. He grew up in a small town outside of Pittsburgh, attending local schools and graduating from the University of Pittsburgh. Immediately after graduating, Michael moved to New York City, where he began a career in publishing.
Michael Voss has written a wide variety of books, from picture books for very young children to action and adventure books for middle-grade readers to novels for teens and young adults. He is perhaps best known for his series, The Adventures of Lucky Lockwood, an exciting and humorous adventure series about a twelve-year-old boy and his epic battles against the forces of evil. It was the recipient of multiple awards, including the American Library Association's Best Book for Young Adults Award, the King Features Young Authors Award, and the New York Public Library's Best Books Award.
The Witches of Northwood is another series written by Michael Voss, set in a remote mountain village in Massachusetts. It tells the story of a group of courageous young girls who must find a way to save the village from the evil forces of nature that surround it. This series won numerous awards, including the ALA Notable Children's Book Award and the School Library Journal Best Book of the Year Award.
Michael Voss has also written a number of other books, such as The Stranger Who Turned Out to Be Me, a story of a girl dealing with grief and moving on, The Parkland Summer, about a group of kids who try to save their neighborhood park from corrupt politicians, and Above the Rim, a basketball book about a high school player who struggles to make it to the pros.
In addition to his work as an author, Michael Voss has served as the editor of two magazines, Visions and Videotech. He has written extensively on the subjects of media literacy and media education. His work has been translated into more than a dozen languages, including French, German, Spanish, and Chinese.
Michael Voss continues to write books for children and young adults, although he also spends time working in media education.
