Mike Goodridge
Mike Goodridge is a prolific author and teacher who has published a number of books on education and business leadership over the past few years. His works are known for their unique combination of practical approaches to problem solving, modern insight, and historical context.
Goodridge began his career as an educator in 1983. After a successful stint as the head of a department of learning specialists at the University of Cambridge, he left to pursue a doctorate from Stanford University. His doctoral thesis, on how leaders in educational institutions, businesses, and non-profit organizations increase their effectiveness through the use of personal relationships and organizational change, is credited with reviving and advancing the field of organizational relationships and development.
In 2016, Goodridge released his book “The Leadership Effect: Creating an Environment of Change and Improvement”. The book focuses on the importance of developing strong relationships in organizations, with an emphasis on working with, not against, in spite of day-to-day frustrations. Goodridge argues that while strong relationships will not solve all problems, they can act as a powerful catalyst for change and improvement. He states that instead of focusing on separating and punishing employees, leaders should be more concerned with developing relationships and building bridges between those involved.
Goodridge also published his second book in 2017, “Leading and Managing to Make a Difference: Mastering the Elements of Organizational Change and Effectiveness”. This book focuses on transforming organizations from within, by building motivation and performance. Goodridge argues that a successful leader must strive to understand the needs of their staff and find creative ways to address these needs. He believes that creating a supportive and creative atmosphere where employees feel valued and empowered is an essential part of successful leadership.
In his third book, “How to Develop Leadership Skills”, Goodridge takes on a more hands-on approach to leadership training, offering guidance and resources for developing communication, problem solving, decision making, and planning skills. In addition, he provides concrete steps for managing projects, and for resolving conflicts.
Goodridge has also written a number of blog entries, articles, and reports, including “Leadership Development: Unlocking the Power and Potential of Collaboration”, “Goal Setting: Turning Plans into Results”, and “Leadership in the 21st Century: Connecting and Engaging in a Networked World”. All of these works are marked by Goodridge’s unique ability to deftly combine anecdotes and theory to offer practical advice in the pursuit of successful leadership.
