Molly Ball
Molly Ball is an award-winning American writer and political journalist. She is best known for her work with national publications such as The Atlantic and TIME, as well as award-winning books such as "The Education Of Molly Ball: Women's Rights, Race, and the Making of an Activist".
Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1979, Molly began her career as a freelance journalist for The Ann Arbor News. She then went on to attend American University and double major in broadcast journalism and Spanish.
Molly's first foray into the world of politics and writing came when she wrote a cover story for The Atlantic in 2009. The piece, titled "The Rise of the New Supermajority" was a deep look at the changes in American politics and the impact the Tea Party had on the Republican Party. This article set the stage for the kind of political journalism that Molly would go on to create for The Atlantic and other publications.
Molly had a keen eye for covering the politics of the Obama years. She also wrote extensively on the 2012 US presidential election, which was highly charged in regards to social issues. Her writing during this period ensured her a spot among the most esteemed political writers of the time.
In 2015 Molly published her first nonfiction book, "The Education of Molly Ball: Women's Rights, Race, and the Making of an Activist". In this book, Molly chronicles her rise to activism in the wake of the 2008 election of President Obama. The book provides an insightful look into the lives of those that are fighting for women's rights and social justice.
Molly's work has earned her a number of awards, including the John Jay/ Harry S Truman Scholarship and a Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University. She is also the recipient of the Edward R. Murrow Award for Feature Reporting for her coverage of the Obama presidency.
In 2016, Molly published her second nonfiction book, "Night Moves: A Voyage From Washington To Greene County, Pennsylvania". In this book, Molly delves into how the American experiment can become a reality for the people living in rural America. She visits various places in order to explore how those living in rural America are impacted by their changing landscape and the ever-present issues that many face.
Molly currently serves as a professor of practice in the journalism program at the University of Maryland, College Park. Throughout her career, Molly has been an advocate for social justice issues as well as using her platform to bring issues of race and gender to light. This is evident in her books, articles and essays, which have all contributed to the national conversation. From her writings, it is clear that Molly Ball is not only a talented journalist but an important voice that is committed to producing thoughtful and provocative pieces.
