Nicola Gennaioli

Nicola Gennaioli is an Italian academic who is renowned in the fields of financial economics, corporate finance, and behavioural finance. He is the Andreu Mas-Colell Chair in Economics at IESE Business School and Professor of Economics at Pompeu Fabra University and is also a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research.

Gennaioli began his academic career at the University of Rome and has since held positions at the International Monetary Fund, London Business School, and Harvard University. His current research and writing focuses on corporate finance, asset pricing, and financial market behaviour. He is the author and co-author of numerous articles and books including the best-selling book Saving Capitalism from the Capitalists: Unleashing the Power of Financial Markets to Create Wealth and Spread Opportunity.

Gennaioli’s most recent work, entitled The Theory of Financial Risk and Derivative Pricing, endeavors to explain the concepts of portfolio choice, asset pricing theory, and derivative pricing in finance. This book presents the basic principles of modern financial theory and describes the practical applications of them in the real world. He also discusses the major elements of financial economics and the accompanying associated financial risks.

Gennaioli makes use of both theories and applications of financial modelling and explains the powerful role derivative markets play in predicting risk levels and managing them. He also illustrates how modern portfolio theory has been used successfully in the past and how it can be used to manage financial volatility as well as create wealth.

In addition to these works, Gennaioli has also written a book on behavioural finance, entitled The Theory of Investment Decisions. In this book, Gennaioli explores the way in which investors take decisions, considering the financial results as well as psychological factors when making financial choices. He goes so far as to argue that behavioural finance deserves its place in academic and financial practice and describes how some of its theories have been used successfully in practice.

Gennaioli’s contributions to the field of finance have been widely acknowledged, with his work cited in such outlets as the Financial Times, the Harvard Business Review, and the Wall Street Journal. His expertise and experience have earned him many awards and distinctions, such as the Econometric Society European Economic Association Award and the Vilfredo Pareto Prize from the Italian Economic Association.

Gennaioli currently serves as the head of the Research Department at IESE Business School and is a part-time professor at the London School of Economics. He also regularly consults and advises on areas such as investments, corporate governance, and risk management. His research and writing play an integral role in the development of financial research, making him one of the most recognized and respected authors in the field.
