Nicolas Berggruen

Nicolas Berggruen is an internationally renowned investor, philanthropist, and author whose career has spanned both finance and politics.

Born in Paris in 1961 to an American mother and a German father, Berggruen finished high school in Germany and went on to pursue political science at the University of Geneva. Despite focusing his studies on politics, Berggruen quickly developed a keen interest in and understanding of finance. Berggruen continued his exploration of philosophy in his 2006 book, Governing in the Age of Complexity: Deliberation, Resilience and Colonization. This book examines the effects of globalization on global politics, economics and society and looks at ways in which governments can respond to and manage complexity.

Berggruen’s other books include Happy, in Control: Finding Balance in a World of Change and Ideas for Our Time: Thoughts and Reflections of a Creative Strategic Investor, both of which focus on practical advice for finding balance in life and tackling global issues. Berggruen has also written and edited several publications for the Berggruen Institute and the Berggruen Philosophy and Culture Center.
