Norman Vincent Peale was an iconic American author and minister whose books dealt with the power of faith and positive thinking. He is best known for The Power of Positive Thinking, a 1952 best-seller that inspired millions of people around the world and has been translated into over a dozen languages.

Peale was born on May 31, 1898, in Bowersville, Ohio. He received his Bachelor of Divinity degree from the Biblical Seminary at Nyack, New York in 1918 and his Doctor of Divinity degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1934. In 1922, he began working as a pastor in Brooklyn, New York, at the Marble Collegiate Church, a post he held for over fifty years.

Throughout his lifetime, Peale wrote and published over 50 books and dozens of magazine articles. He also wrote a daily newspaper column, "The Art of Living," which ran in newspapers across the country for nearly 40 years. It was through his work, both written and spoken, that Peale earned a reputation as one of the foremost proponents of positive thinking.

Peale's most well-known book, The Power of Positive Thinking, was first published in 1952 by Prentice Hall. It was a smash hit and sold millions of copies around the world. Peale earned numerous honors throughout his lifetime and was the recipient of 25 honorary degrees. He was inducted into the National Speakers Hall of Fame in 1994, and in 1994 the Norman Vincent Peale Award for Positive Thinking was founded.
