Orson Scott Card
Orson Scott Card is a highly acclaimed and beloved science fiction, fantasy and speculative fiction author who has been writing since the late 1970s. He is best known for his epic novel Ender’s Game, which was later adapted into a film of the same name, and its companion book Ender’s Shadow. He has also written several other successful books in various fields. His works have won many awards, such as multiple Hugo Awards and Nebula Awards.
Orson Scott Card was born on August 24, 1951 in Richland, Washington. He was raised in California, Arizona and Utah and later moved to North Carolina. Card began writing science fiction stories in his early twenties and published his first short story, "Ender’s Game," in the 1977 issue of Analog magazine. The story was inspired by his own experiences and religious faith. The story earned him the Hugo and Nebula Awards, making him the only author to win both awards for the same story.
Since then, Card has gone on to write numerous other books, including the Ender series of books, the Alvin Maker series, The Tales of Alvin Maker series, the Homecoming series and several stand-alone novels. He is also the author of the acclaimed science fiction novel Ender’s Game, which was the basis for a successful movie released in 2013. Other books of his published include Enchantment, Lost Boys, Pathfinder, Speaker for the Dead and Hidden Empire.
In addition to his science fiction work, Card has penned political nonfiction books and written essays and articles on topics such as religion and politics. He is a noted public speaker who has given lectures at many universities and other public forums. He has also taught writing classes at various universities, including Southern Virginia University and BYU.
Card's works have been translated into more than 25 languages and have sold millions of copies around the world. Thanks to his writing, Card has been the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Hugo Awards for Best Novel twice, a Nebula Award, the World Fantasy Award and many others. He is currently a professor at Southern Virginia University and lives in Greensboro, North Carolina with his wife and two children.
